Med Access International 2025 Summer

Humanitarian Medical Mission

Student members from any of the high school robotics teams sponsored by the Great Lakes Science Center, who are also interested in supporting "Hands Across Borders," the global community service project started by members of the Argonauts (FRC Team #8222) and adopted by the other founding members of the science center's Robotics Initiative, are invited to apply to participate in a ten (10) day, all-expenses-paid humanitarian medical mission to Latacunga, a plateau city located in the Republic of Ecuador. 

This summer's humanitarian medical mission has been organized by Med Access International (formally IMAHelps.org), a non-profit volunteer aide organization that runs humanitarian medical missions to impoverished communities in Asia, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

As You will be joining other students and nearly 100 doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who willingly volunteer to conduct medical missions abroad to some of the most impoverished communities around the world. ​​

The Great Lakes Science Center, in partnership with Sherwin-Williams, will host a professional development workshop for FIRST® Robotics Competition team members interested in learning how to use and operate the science center's Axiom Precision CNC Router. 

This demonstration/workshop is specifically for anyone who is a beginner and new to benchtop or desktop CNC routers and project design.  Michael Thomas, our facilitator, will walk you through step-by-step instructions on getting started and designing projects for our recently upgraded CNC router.  Along the way, he will answer your questions about CNC router bits, setting up the CNC router, and using CNC control software, including how to set up, save, and transfer G-code from a computer to the router. 

This workshop is intended to help the beginner avoid bad cuts, broken router bits, mistakes, and countless hours on YouTube trying to learn.​
