Onshape® CAD Training Workshop

The Great Lakes Science Center in partnership with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) will host an Onshape® CAD Training Workshop for CMSD students participating in the FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC) on Tuesday, November 15, 2023, from 2:30 PM until 3:30 PM. This computer-aided design (CAD) workshop is presented by Sherwin-Williams and will be facilitated by members of the Sherwin-Williams Robotics Engineering team.

WHAT IS ONSHAPE®

Onshape® is a professional-grade, cloud-based computer-aided design (CAD) platform that students and educators can access for FREE on any device, anywhere, anytime. Using web-based servers, software users can collaborate on a single model, editing and interacting at the same time. Developed by the founders of Solidworks, Onshape® is unique in that it is accessed through a web browser. So, there is no need to download any software.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This workshop course is ideal for beginners wanting to learn CAD. During the workshop, facilitators will cover CAD basics including the key concepts involved in modeling parts and assemblies. They will also review Onshape fundamentals, including navigation, sketching, part studios, and assemblies.

If you are a member of the Design Sub-Team or have an interest in designing your own models for 3D printing then this course will teach you the skills you need to design models that can be 3D printed.

The hour-long workshop will begin promptly at 2:30 PM. Participants will need to bring a fully charged Chromebook, Laptop, or tablet/iPad to this training session with their own charging cables.
