Local FIRST Students Featured on Fox 8 News

Students from the FIRST® Robotics Competition team at Davis Aerospace and Maritime High School were recently featured on Fox 8 News for their involvement in a Global Community Service Project that is changing lives both here in Cleveland and abroad.
Sophomores Yariselle Andujar and Daneala Moreno from Team #8222 (the Argonauts) were interviewed by Fox 8 News reporter Stacey Frey about their involvement in a student-led program to create prosthetic hands for children. “At the end of the 2022 robotics season, we were challenged by our mentors to think of ways to use what we had learned while building robots, to make our communities and the world a better place,” explains Yariselle, the Team Lead and official spokesperson for the group project.
After learning about the plight of a 12-year-old girl in Ecuador who lost the use of both arms after a serious bus accident, Yariselle and fellow teammate Daneala, who immigrated to the United States from Ecuador four years ago, approached their team, and the team members from the other three Cleveland area FRC teams with a plan to use their new-found expertise in computer-aided design and 3D-printing to engineer a solution for this little girl and her family.
Word of their project quickly spread and now the students are working on the weekends to make prosthetic hands for families with limited financial resources here in Cleveland and in developing countries around the world. Click HERE to see the recording of the original Fox 8 News broadcast.
